Educational Manifestations, Multi-Grade
Feather River
FEATHER RIVER ACADEMY | Yuba City, CA
Learning in Action is the thematic basis for the Feather River Academy (FRA) – a County alternative-education high school. On a flat 4 acre site, this learning village intermingles program components across the campus —athletics, classrooms, outdoor play areas, indoor/outdoor performing arts spaces. The FRA campus includes a Multipurpose Building, Administrative offices, a Special Education building, a Greenhouse, and an Internet Café. The Sutter County Superintendent of Schools serves students in county-wide programs for special education and at-risk youth, grades 7-12. The County had not constructed a new school in 30+ years; this was a golden opportunity to design an environment that fostered students’ return to high school. Students learn and work in a collegiate atmosphere, and FRA’s adjacency to the County Office of Education makes it an ideal setting for community events, meetings and conferences. Community performances are held in the school’s Multipurpose Building, providing much-needed theater space and meeting rooms.
